Now I Know Why I’m in Spring Lake
Peter Grandich, a sinner, saved by Grace, found out today the “true” reason I’m in Spring Lake.
Up until today, I stated it was a selfish desire to spend the twilight of my career in a place I had visited for three decades and always dream of living or working there.
Today, my heart was opened wide and it gushed tears of joys when I was driven to my knees.
Several years ago, I met a woman in Colts Neck name Monica. She founded and runs The Ashley Lauren Foundation. I would serve on her board and help raise funds. Up until today, I had thought my best contribution was bringing NY Giants Super Bowl Champion Justin Tuck to the house of a then Ashley Lauren client. The story was documented by ESPN here.
Without me knowing, Monica moved Ashley Lauren to Spring Lake just about the time I made the decision to open my “dream” office there too. Monica and my heart were made one again at a Chamber Christmas party this past winter.
Today, Monica brought a client named Chris. Here’s his story. – I truly beg you to watch it – only six minutes and whatever your problems are, they will seem very small afterwards.
Chris is a big Steelers and Chargers fan. Unfortunately, we don’t have any clients or contacts with the Steelers ever since Jason Worilds shocked us all and retired from football. We’ve been blessed to have Chargers QB Kellen Clemons join our company team recently and we’ll reach out to him. Chris is also a big wrestling fan and loves John Cena (my favorite too – yes I’m a closet wrestling fan).
We gave Chris some football items and invited him back whenever we have events with athletes he like to meet.
After they left the office, my heart and soul was overwhelmed and I fell to my knees with tears in my eyes. Now when I say God spoke to me, its’ not that I hear a voice; but clearly the Holy Spirit said with a little tap on the back of my head – this is why you were given the Grace to be in this office.
It will be hard, if not impossible for those who don’t believe in a Creator to begin to appreciate what happen next. I had bought a Bible I wanted to give someone and when I reached for it, I dropped it but it landed with a page opened. I lifted it up and it was in 1John. I read a little and came to this verse:
“If someone who has worldly means sees a brother in need and refuses him compassion, how can the love of God remain in him?” 1John 3:17
I sobbed almost uncontrollably and was truly shaken. Again, I realize if one is not “religious”, it’s hard to understand why.
While Chris’s family prays for Angels to help him, I realized Chris was an Angel himself; sent yet again to remind me to spend far more time on this and other worthy causes, and far less time on my own selfish needs.
Monica wrote to thank me. No Monica, it’s I who thanks Chris, his mom, all and of you at the Ashley Lauren Foundation for doing this day in and day out, while sinners like me make only truly token efforts.
But for today at least, I shall be more than a token by asking my friends and followers to make a donation to the Ashley Lauren Foundation in the name of Chris. Please feel free to contact them to see what you may be able to do for Chris and all the “clients” of the foundation.
“God loves a cheerful giver.”
