Sunday Thought – Forgiveness, the Ultimate Christian Act
I don’t have to take many steps in my Christian walk before I stumble over a true Christian act – forgiveness. I can really put the “un” in “forgiveness”. I suspect I’m not alone in this roadblock.
Now well into my 60th year on earth (and not having an easy time dealing with my mortality), I’ve placed in my mind a “5 to 15” life plan (I’m assuming my expected life span will fall somewhere in that span, but know down deep not even my next breath is assured).
Hoping to remove this “major” roadblock in my Christian walk, I found myself so much more wanting to deal with it, now that I became friends with a man who demonstrated the single best act of forgiveness I ever been able to see what it did for someone “afterwards”.
Dan Duddy Sr., a man I’ve been honored to serve with on the national board of “Catholic Athletes For Christ”, found true forgiveness in what had to be the darkest period in his life. This article and video not only documents it – but I implore you to read and watch it. Have a tissue and be prepared to battle the evil one who will try to tell you “not” to make amends with people who did you wrong.
Please read and watch here.
The “other” man in my life who has demonstrated true forgiveness and has travel the world sharing this great Christian gift, is Bill Wegner.
If Bill told me once, he told me a hundred times, “Forgiveness is far more for you than the person you’re forgiving.” I’ve come to a point in my life where I hope I can truly believe him and plan on implementing that belief right now. Pray for me as before I finish typing this, the evil one is already giving me all sorts of reasons not to listen. Sadly for me, I’ve been to this dance many times before!
